The first Myanmar South Sea pearls were sold at the first Myanmar Gems, Jade and Pearl Emporium, which
was held in 1964. At the first Emporium 3100 pieces of pearl weighing 2840.40 momme were sold at the price of US $ 361433. Since then, Myanmar pearls have been purchased by buyers from all over the world
competitively. The annual Emporiums are always held in March. The highest- ever sold price at an Emporium was US $ 5,159,195 for 30,259 pieces of pearl weighing 11,565.8 momme at the 27th Emporium in 1990. The first Mid-year Emporium was held in October 1992 and since then Myanmar South Sea pearls have been sold at biannual Emporiums in every March and October. We send our invitation mails to our old customers and we also welcome new customers who have interest upon our emporiums. Invitation letters will be sent to new customers who would ask for by e-mail or fax.
At the Emporium only invited foreign buyers are permitted to attend. There are two methods of auction, tender and bidding, lots under Euro 5000 are sold by tender system and lots above Euro 5000 are sold by
competitive bidding.
For local wholesalers we hold auction in December, by Kyats. Pearls from local companies are sold at the Emporium as well as at their company office after splitting with MPE.
